The modern lifestyle is all about dynamism and time is the most precious asset. People earn by the hour and it has resulted in a fast paced life. As people get busier, there is less time to interact, and we find ourselves away from the person(s) we want to interact with. Even when we are away from the people we need to talk to, there is always a need for us to interact with them face to face. A face to face interaction keeps the human touch alive. When there is a business meeting that requires a closer interaction between members, video conferencing comes into play. There are also instances where you need to schedule meetings between two or more parties located far away from one another, at a moment’s notice.

Earlier, video conferencing was carried out using hi-tech audio and video telecommunication devices. From closed circuit television systems connected via radio to two radio- frequency (UHF or VHF) video links and personal computer based conferencing, the video conferencing history has undergone several improvements. With high speed computers, better internet connectivity, sharper imaging techniques and efficient video compression technologies, video communication became a hassle free and preferable way of communicating.

Then came smart phones, which were more developed versions of simple mobile phones and took the world by storm. Smart phones came with highly functional features and technology that allow them to perform a lot of activities that only PCs could do. These phones were already making our lives very convenient, but then manufacturers thought of the front cameras. Ever since then, people have started communicating through video calling with friends and families. However, the kind of technology that smart phones possessed initially was not capable enough to conduct a proper video conference.

A larger number of consumers became familiar with smart phones and accepted them into their personal and professional lives. This made people more dependent on smartphones, which resulted in manufacturers making smart phones more consumer centric. With smart phones becoming more powerful and people becoming technologically smarter, the need to travel for business has been replaced by video conferencing. Business meetings happen in bedrooms connected via video calling. People can see one another and demonstrate product models and diagrams using smart phones, making the explanation richer. This is enabled by high speed data that allows seamless connectivity as well as HD videos that can be taken with ease.

Most manufacturers like Samsung, Android, HTC and Sony provide high quality front cameras on their high-end models especially for video calling. High resolution and large mega pixel count make for quality video chatting sessions. There are various apps that let you enjoy video chatting on your smart devices. Most of these apps allow cross platform communication and hence are available for all operating systems like Android, iOS and Windows.

The concept behind video conferencing is to enable people to use their time more effectively. Everyone is more conscious about his/her time and hence desire to do much more even in a limited time period. We don’t like to miss a game of tennis when it involves our favorite player, but if an urgent matter comes up at work we are required to report immediately. However, we do not have to go to the workplace and instead give our suggestions and inputs from where we are, through video conferencing. This allows us to continue with what we are engaged in and also carry out work related tasks.

Video conferencing utilizes technological advancement in the best way possible to make human lives more convenient. Imagine traveling every weekend to make it to a meeting almost halfway across the globe. This is a real situation and happens at a high statistical level. The number of hours that businessmen, professionals and others involved in various services spend annually in meetings is enormous. The cost of such meetings is another factor that cannot be sidelined. Both the time consumption and amount of money spent on such meetings can be significantly reduced by adopting video conferencing. This will benefit the company, and employees will not have to be stressed emotionally and physically. This provides for a win-win situation for both employers and employees.

This scenario is clearly being predicted by many smart phone manufacturers due to the increasing use of mobile phones for video conferencing. Many companies around the world are not hesitating from encouraging their employees to engage in video conferencing. With this prediction in mind, smart phone manufacturers are actually producing mobile phones with better quality front cameras, along with more functional features and functions for video calling.
